Visitors at festivals this summer

At music festivals, the line between nature and human design blurs. Almost everything around you is designed, including the appearance of nature itself. Parks, trees, and grass are carefully placed within the festival grounds to fit our industrial world. This creates a uniform environment where everything feels predictable. Yet, real nature is the opposite. It grows in unexpected ways and is constantly changing.

Vivid explores this contrast between industrialisation and nature. Inspired by nature’s principles, the team is realizing an installation using prisms to create unique, organic and unpredictable patterns. This will take the form of a glowing tree, symbolizing nature’s chaos and beauty within human-made landscapes. Vivid asks festival-goers to take a moment of reflection. As they move between stages, visitors can sit or lie beneath the glowing tree, pausing amidst the noise of the festival. The installation will become a gathering point, encouraging people to consider:

This summer, Vivid will be featured at festivals including Wildeburg, Wilde Weide, Into the Woods, and Into the Woods ADE!

Do we want to live in world that is completely planned, or should we embrace life’s unpredictability?

With Vivid, Team IGNITE enters the realm of music festivals, expanding beyond their known installations. While light festivals attract visitors for interactive light experiences, music festivals present a new challenge. Nonetheless, this venture showcases IGNITE’s versatility and innovation.

The students working on the project have gained a lot of experience while working on this project becauase it is quite unique to work with such a big partner. This is also what the team says;

"It's very unique to do a project like this for Kultlab as a student, and in this way get real experience in the light design industry"
